The most viewed TV show of all times was Elvis Presley's first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, broadcast on CBS on September 9, 1956. Sixty million viewers watched this show. The second most watched TV show saw 44 million viewers watching the I Love Lucy Episode “Lucy Goes to the Hospital” on CBS, televised on January 19, 1953.

Twenty-one Super Bowls represent some of the highest rated shows of all times, which goes to prove we are a nation that loves our sports. Olympic Games also come in near the top of the ratings list over the years.

Some very specific shows also have high rankings, such as the finale of MASH, which drew 50 million viewers on February 28, 1983. Another is the episode of Dallas, "Who Shot JR", which drew 41.47 million to the front of their TV sets on November 21, 1980. The final episode of the miniseries Roots also garnered a large audience of 36.38 million people on January 30, 1977.

Currently, the ten highest ranked shows for this year are Heroes, Desperate Housewives, Family Guy, House and Lost, followed by Gossip Girl, Prison Break, Chuck, One Tree Hill and Bones. Ranked 13th is Fox's 24, 15 is NCIS and American Idol comes in at 48. The hugely popular CSI series comes in at 25, CSI New York at 34 And CSI Miami at 29. Is your favorite show listed?
