There are many great daytime television shows currently airing. Some of the most popular shows are soap operas. The leading network in soap operas is probably CBS. They currently air four soap operas. They are Guiding Light, Bold and the Beautiful, Young and the Restless, and As the World Turns. Guiding Light originally started in 1937 as a radio broadcast. In 1952, it turned into a television broadcast. It is currently the longest running soap opera in the United States. It is currently in its final season with CBS, and will be moving to YouTube later this year.
The Bold and the Beautiful is another soap opera on CBS. It is currently only a half hour long which is unusual as most soap operas are a full hour. It is expected to become an hour long show after Guiding Light leaves the network.
Young and the Restless is currently the best rated daytime drama on TV. Over the last twenty years, the Nielsen Rating has listed it as the top daytime drama for over 1,000 weeks. This is amazing because it has been able to maintain the same high popularity over the last twenty years.
The other soap opera on CBS is As the World Turns. This show has been on the air for over fifty years. Once Guiding Light leaves CBS, As the World Turns will be the longest current running soap opera in the United States. The show has currently shown over 13,500 different episodes.
