When DVDs first came out, the new technology was made available to new releases and the movies that were coming out from that point on. Now that DVD technology has been around for awhile, the DVD and movie organizations are going back with titles. They are now transferring the old movies on to DVD and re-releasing them in that format.
It would make sense that old classics made available on the DVD format in order to keep movie culture alive. If they were not put on to DVD eventually, they would have limited availability. With such, the masses could not enjoy movies that have been passed down from decade to decade.
Now there are companies totally dedicated to getting classics on to DVD and the selling them to the public. As a result, there are thousands of classic movies now on the popular medium. Take a look at just a sampling of the classics you can now get on DVD: Witness For the Prosecution, 12 Angry Men, A Farewell to Arms, An Affair to Remember, Barbary Coast, Carousel, Cheaper by the Dozen, Guys and Dolls, Jane Eyre, Love is a Many Splendored Thing, Moby Dick, Casablanca, The French Connection, The Ghoul, The Grapes of Wrath and The Mark of Zorro.
As you can see there are many great classic titles that have been put on DVD with many, many more that have not been mentioned. Chances are, if you are looking for a classic title, you can probably find it online. Do a little research, and you will soon be watching your favorite classic on DVD.
