Summer's soon here. Time for new summer shows. Well, this one's set in summer, in the superrich community of Southampton, NY. "Royal Pains" stars Mark Feuerstein as Hank Lawson, an ER doctor whose judgment call resulted in the death of a VIP, leading to his firing and his fiancee's ending their engagement. (After all, he may not be perfect now.) Hank spends a little too long in front of the TV with beer empties and Cheetos bags around him. His accountant brother insists he come out to the Hamptons for the weekend. The exclusive party the brother talks their way into is hosted by Boris (Campbell Scott), obscenely rich and impressed by Hank when an emergency arises. No hospital for the rich -- and famous for being rich -- especially the nearby hospital considered by the glitterati to be one-way...you go in but you don't come out. Hank handles the situation so well, while waiting for the helicopter heading for a New York hospital, that he's pushed into being the "concierge doctor," replacing the current one who's quickly dismissed.
As Hank resists being the doctor at the rich's beck and call, he's mysteriously contacted several more times by Southampton residents. And a physician's assistant arrives to work permanently with him. He resists again, but she knows her way around the Hamptons, with a mini-hospital in her SUV. Will he stay as the concierge doctor? Will a lovely hospital administrator (yes, that hospital) bring the situation a little more down to earth? It's worth finding out more on Thursdays.
