LensCrafters
If you live in a city or suburb, you probably can quickly drive to a LensCrafters store. The company has 850 locations in North America, Canada and Puerto Rico. It became very popular years ago because of the ability to provide prescription glasses in one hour. That's not true for custom requests, however, such as bifocals, scratch-resistant or UV coating. These orders will probably take about two weeks. LensCrafters also offers contact lenses, which generally arrive in one week.
Retail optical locations have a high degree of competition. But competing stores all seem to be under one ownership umbrella. Along with LensCrafters, Pearle Vision, J.C. Penney Optical, Target Optical and Eye-Med are all owned by the Italian company Luxotica.
Convenience is a very attractive part of LensCrafters. Consumers can see the onsite optometrist for an examination and prescription, then have their glasses and contacts customized, all in one place.
