Satellite TV

Look at a few roofs and sides of apartment buildings.  You'll often see satellite dishes, sometimes several on one building.  These belong to consumers who subscribe to satellite TV through only two sources, Dish Network or DirecTV.  Satellite TV is an alternative to cable.  Since June 12, when all TV went digital, TV watchers with antennas had to make arrangements for either satellite TV or cable, or obtain a converter box.

The first satellite signal appeared in 1962.  The first commercial satellite went into space in 1965.  Satellite TV's first network appeared in 1967.  The two satellite TV providers offer similar packages to subscribers such as premium movie channels.  Satellite TV is often used by people who can't get cable in their areas.  DirecTV and Dish Network are priced similarly, but each offers slightly different choices in programming and sports packages.
