Has the Godfather Trilogy Become a Classic?

What an easy question.  "The Godfather," released in 1972, has been called the finest film of its generation.  Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, it starred Marlon Brando as Don Corleone.  Brando wanted the role so badly he darkened the area around his eyes, stuffed his cheeks with tissues and agreed to a private screen test. We all remember James Caan, John Cazale and Al Pacino as his sons.  Both "The Godfather" and "The Godfather: Part II," released in 1974, won Best Picture Oscars.

In 1990, "The Godfather: Part III" was released with Al Pacino, Diane Keaton and Talia Shire, familiar actors from the previous movies.  Added to the cast were Andy Garcia, Sofia Coppola, Eli Wallach and Joe Mantegna.  Among the three movies, there were 29 Academy Award nominations, and the films took home 10.  There's no doubt that the trilogy is a classic.
