Internet Success Stories

Where would we be without the internet?  Among other uses, you can watch TV shows you missed or sit down at your computer to see a movie.  Who were the people who made this and other applications possible?  Sometimes they just had a good idea, something no one else had.

Keith Waters created a dot com to find out-of-print books and now deals with book collectors and dealers.  Pierre Omidyar, a French Iranian, started an auction site in 1995 where he sold electrical equipment, computer items, antique books and comics.  He named it Actionweb.  The company now has a more familiar name -- eBay.

Mark Zuckerberg came up with a little network site named Facebook.  He started out targeting college students, but it’s now used by subscribers of all ages as well as Fortune 500 companies and government employees.  Zuckerberg refuses to sell out to Google, YouTube or NewsCorp.  He still lives in his rented apartment.

What will you think of?
