Jimmy Connors
So you think you can play tennis? Do the pros make it look easy when you're watching the Open? Let's look at the career of Jimmy Connors. He entered a championship at the age of 9. He made his international debut in 1970 and turned pro in 1972, winning his first tournament in Jacksonville. Connors had signed a contract to play World Team Tennis (WTT) and was banned from the 1974 French Open. All players were denied participation if they belonged to WTT. The only victory not won by Connors in 1974? The French Open.
Connors has a singles career record of 1241-277 -- victories 81.75% of the time. His doubles career record is 173-78, victories 68.9% of the time. He won the Grand Slam Single Final Title five times between 1974 and 1983, and the Wimbledon Open in 1982. He won a male record 109 singles titles and 15 doubles. Connors retired from tennis in 1996.
The clip reviews his career. A bit self-congratulatory, but deserved.
