Breeding Great Yorkies

It's wedding bells for two pedigreed Yorkies!  Start by truly knowing the breed and choosing the female and male without Yorkie problems such as liver shunt issues, collapsed trachea or luxated patellas.  Daddy should not be too big because the pups would be too hard to deliver.  Once babies are on the way, let a few weeks go by and take the female to have an ultrasound.  You'll even find out how many are in the litter.  It will take about nine weeks.

The Mom and pups will need a whelting box.  You can even build it yourself.  Protect the rug or floor and line the box with a blanket or sweater.  Have Mom lie in the box to get used to it, and when the pups arrive even the proud papa will be a happy observer.
