It's fun to hear the announcements of actresses, singers, TV personalities and other celebs when they're expecting twins. Are any of them expecting one kid? Where are all this twins coming from? It seems as if there are no more single births!
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are the parents of twins Knox and Vivienne. The odds of fraternal twins at Angie's age of 33 is under 1 percent, but in vitro fertilization brings it up to 25 percent. Thirty-three is pretty young for today's Moms! Incidentally, the first Jolie-Pitt child was in great demand for a picture. Brad and Angelina let the magazines bid for the first picture. People Magazine won, offering four million dollars. Every penny went to the fight against AIDS in Africa. I admire them both.
Jane Seymour was 45 when she delivered twin boys by IVF. The pregnancy was high risk and extremely difficult, and the boys were six weeks early. Jane had had four children with her previous husband. Marcia Cross used IVF and delivered twin girls at age 44. Joan Lunden had three children with her first husband. She had numerous IVF cycles unsuccessfully, then turned to a surrogate. The same woman delivered two sets of twins when Joan was 52 and 54.
Internet supermodel Cindy Margolis had a son through IVF at 37, then had twin daughters by a surrogate when she was 40. Cheryl Tiegs used a surrogate and had twins at the age of 52.
I guess it's the latest thing. The good part is to have two kids in one pregnancy. The bad news is having two screaming infants -- sometimes.
