Our fascination used to be with zombies. When they didn't eat our brains, we moved on. There's something sexy about vampires. (Rent 1979's "Dracula" with Frank Langella. He had a full head of dark hair then. He defines Sexy Vampire.) So what if they sleep in coffins. Okay, they can't get a tan if they never encounter the sun. But they have very busy nights.
Let's face it. We're amused and fascinated by vampires. We see that our lives are better than, well, having that scar on our necks and being forced into immortality with a strange liquid diet. Enjoy! And lock your windows at night.
