Do you think your mechanic talks you into procedures you may not need? Do you leave all the repairs in your mechanic's hands because you don't know about cars? Wouldn't it be great to get car repair answers, prices and suggestions without going to the dealer or local garage?
Such a place exists. It's called RepairPal. On this site, you can ask any car question. Just choose your year, make and model and look under "common auto repairs." Then find your city. You can even find suggested repair shops. For example, if you're in Houston, just go to Houston auto repair http://repairpal.com/houston-auto-repair. I'm not in Houston, but I just entered my year, make and model and found 14 recent questions. Mine was one of them!
RepairPal partners with Consumer Reports, AARP, ASA, Bosch and cars.com, as well as AOL Autos. You can describe the problem and even get an online estimate. For another example, go to Acura Integra http://repairpal.com/acura-integra-1998 to investigate your 1998 Integra issue. Is it as simple as oil and filter change? There's a place to go for that too -- oil change http://repairpal.com/engine-oil-filter-change. This site will actually offer suggestions to treat your problems in plain English.
Just don't tell your mechanic.
